Apsley House

Piccadilly, London

Apsley House has been the London home of the Dukes of Wellington since the Battle of Waterloo, and is a Grade 1 Listed building dating from 1778. Specialist operatives from Campbell Smith & Co carried out marbling to two 4m high hollow plaster columns and pilasters in the main entrance hall. The work carried out was Highly Commended by the Painting & Decorating Association judges for the Premier Trophy Awards, who complimented the “Excellent Work carried out on time.”

Campbell Smith specialists built up the finish by progressively applying multiple layers of Polyvine oil based scumble glaze, each tinted to colour with artists’ colours to match the breccia tavera granite used elsewhere in the hallway.
