St Edmunsbury Cathedral

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk

During 2010, a new organ was built at this magnificent Cathedral. Some pipes from the old organ were re-used and the cases were partially re-used and partially replaced. Campbell Smith and Co Ltd undertook the decoration of the cases which were based on designs by Alan Rome and Stephen Dykes Bower, with the colour scheme realised by architect John Bucknall.

Works involved a range of specialist decorating skills, including Gilding, Stenciling, Trompe l’oeil, fine decoration and exceptional detailing to both the organ cases and the ceiling of the tower.

Our work won an Award for Excellence from The Bury Society, with the judges’ citation noting the beautiful design, workmanship and skill of our craftsmen.
